Q: My son has a 2004 f350 6.0. Stop at a light and it doesn't want to shift back into first has started sometimes slipping when going into reverse, is it time for a rebuild or something else he should check first thanks - Kristine
A: Morning Kristine,
I always start with the easy stuff first. I would start by checking the level of the transmission fluid when the engine is warm and running with the transmission in park. If the fluid is low it can take a minute to pick it up to provide pressure to move the truck. If it is full I would drop the pan and take a look at the filter and magnet. Sometimes a really plugged filter can cause what you are describing as well. If you see tons of debris in the filter or on the magnet, it may be time for a rebuild. If it looks ok, replace the filter and fluid and see what happens. If it still isn’t better, I would suggest taking it to a transmission shop for diagnosis.
